Kochi Jacket

When you’ve been in the indie pattern business for a while, as I have, you start to get to know many of the other pattern designers and eventually some of them become friends. One goal I’ve had for myself this year is to sew up a few patterns from my pattern designer friends, starting with this Papercut Patterns Kochi Jacket!

I’ve been a fan of Katie’s for a long time, she has great drafting and her styles are so unique and fun. This past June while I was teaching at Soul Craft she happened to be in Melbourne and we got the chance to meet up which was amazing! Katie is funny, smart, sweet and I had the best time hanging out with her. I left feeling really sad that we live half the world away from each other.

So now let’s talk about this Kochi Kimono! I think you can probably tell from the photos that it’s gotten a lot of wear since I made it this spring. I love wearing it when I’m working around the studio because the sleeve length is my preferred length so that they don’t get in my way working, and the generous pockets are just right for toting my supplies around with me.

I made what you could call either Variation 1 without the ties or Variation 3 with pockets. My fabric is navy silk noil purchased at Stonemountain & Daughter and I love how it feels, and the weight and drape with the pattern is perfect. I also can’t get enough of how the fabric has faded similarly to denim over the stitching and seam allowances. I always joke that I have the ability to make an evening gown casual and this silk is no exception to that.

I absolutely love this pattern and have two more silk noils waiting for the moment I have time to make more. I highly recommend this pattern and if you haven’t made one yet, hop on it!

*This pattern was originally called the Kochi Kimono and has been renamed since my original post.
